Priest Accused of Stealing $780K from Vatican

A priest who served as a Vatican accountant has been accused of embezzling 600,000 euros (around $780,000) from a church bank account. Monsigner Nunzio Scarano is accused of taking out small amounts and giving them to friends who wrote him checks. The money was spent to pay off a mortgage, officials allege. His arrest comes the same week that Pope Francis announced an investigation of the bank.
