The St. Louis Rams have released defensive end rookie Michael Sam, the seventh-round draft pick making a bid to become the first openly gay player on an NFL team. Sam, a seventh round draft pick, had a strong preseason with 11 tackles and three sacks. A team source told ESPN that if Sam clears waivers the team is hoping to sign him to the 10-man practice squad.
