Airbnb is already a winner when it comes to the New York City Marathon

On Sunday, about 50,000 people will participate in the New York City marathon. But even before the first runner crosses the finish line, it's already clear who's coming out ahead.


Airbnb, the short-term rental site, has had a difficult time lately in New York City: The state attorney general issued a scathing report in October, calling 72% of the site's listings illegal. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's office announced lawsuits against two illegal hotel operators allegedly reaching customers through Airbnb. Evictions and rental horror stories have grabbed headlines.
