'Jew in a Box' Shown at German Museum

The Jewish Museum in Berlin has invited a Jewish man or woman to sit in a glass box for two hours and answer visitor questions about Judaism and life as a Jew. The box is labeled, "Are there still Jews in Germany?" There are fewer than 200,000 Jews in the country of 82 million people. Six million Jews were killed during the Holocaust, which was orchestrated by German leader Adolf Hitler from the same city. "A lot of our visitors don't know any Jews and have questions they want to ask," museum official Tina Luedecke said. A Jewish community figure in Berlin said the exhibit is offensive. "Why don't they give him a banana and a glass of water, turn up the heat and make the Jew feel really cozy in his glass box?" Stephan Kramer said.
