A Democratic Party county chair in Indiana and three other people were convicted of forging signatures on petitions to place Democratic candidates on the state's primary ballot in 2008. Indiana requires candidates to get 500 signatures in each of the state's congressional districts to be on the ballot. Party chair Butch Morgan and the others forged 100 to 200 signatures on petitions in St. Joseph County required to get Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the ballot. "never, at any time, was any candidate alleged to have been involved," said state Sen. John Broden (D-South Bend), the current Democratic Party chair of the county.
