Last week, the Senate voted down an amendment introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) to the Farm Bill that would have allowed states to label genetically modified foods. Senate Agriculture Chair Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) opposed the amendment, saying it would "interfere with the FDA's science-based process to determine what food labeling is necessary for consumers." The vote was 71-27. The Senate will pick up consideration of the Farm Bill after the Memorial Day recess.
