Eastern U.S. gets a winter blast this weekend from 'Manitoba Mauler'

On Friday night, as trick-or-treaters set out in cities and suburbia from Illinois to Georgia and northward to Maine, a “Manitoba Mauler” of a storm system will be diving southeastward like an atmospheric dementor, destined to usher in a sudden blast of biting, winter cold


The storm, which has origins in the Canadian province of Manitoba, may shatter cold temperature records in the Deep South, and bring the season's first significant snowstorm to the southern Appalachians
