Maine loosens restrictions; nurse won't have to self-quarantine after Ebola work

Kaci Hickox's widely publicized fight for freedom from her own home may soon be over


The nurse's home state of Maine initially demanded that Hickox, who had recently returned from treating Ebola patients in west Africa, remain quarantined at home. However, it has pulled back on those demands, instead obtaining a temporary court order which Hickox is reportedly happy with.



On Friday morning, the state's restrictions for Hickox were scaled back to instead require direct active monitoring, coordination of travel with public officials and a requirement that the state be alerted as soon as Hickox develops symptoms (she currently is not experiencing any).
