Thousands of costumed revelers paraded up Sixth Avenue during the annual Village Halloween Parade in New York City


It was elbow-to-elbow at times as onlookers and participants in the parade—which was started in the 1970s—swarmed the packed route through Greenwich Village.



The grand marshal of the night, Whoopi Goldberg, was decked out in shades of pink and purple from head to toe, with a ring of roses around her neck—perhaps a nod to the parade’s theme, Garden of Earthly Delights.
