160,000 Animals Beheaded in Religious Ritual

Thousands of people gathered in Nepal to participate in the gruesome and cruel spectacle of killing 160,000 animals in the world's biggest religious animal sacrifice. Officials estimate that up to 10,000 buffalo calves and 150,000 goats will be offered to Gadhimai -- the Hindu goddess of power -- during the twice-a-decade ritual in Kathmandu, Nepal, attended by five million people. "Any part of the body can be cut,"said Niraj Gautam, an animal welfare activist working to fight the event. "Last time round we saw buffalo walking with their head hanging."
